So...who is this guy?
Hi, I'm austin.
I was raised on a healthy "balance" of LEGOs, Matchbox cars, television, curiosity, imagination, and parental support. As I was an only child, I grew accustomed to communicating my thoughts to people of all ages and backgrounds at an early age. I was also introduced to the concept of accountability very early on.
My parents both studied architecture in college and thus I was destined to be a great designer. Right? In a word, no. I was what could be called an "academic" throughout the entirety of my high school education. I studied AP Calculus, AP English, AP Bio, and it seems like a lot of the rest of the classes were honors something or other. Then I zigged where everyone expected a zag and went to The Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), an art school - and it was in GEORGIA of all places!
And that's how I ended up at an art school with virtually no artistic training. I've made the most of it so far, and look forward to my last few quarters. Fortunately, I had learned the importance of writing and speaking clearly and descriptively, which are skills on which many designers seem to focus too little. Unfortunately, I never learned how to limit my words very well.
People often say that I talk too much, and they might be right. But at least I'm talking.
-austin
